There are many benefits to travelling with a camper trailer -- from lowered accommodation costs to no set up time -- and the freedom afforded to couples and families with their own is unparalleled. If you're not familiar driving with a trailer, there are a few things you take note of before you set off.
Maintain a steady pace
When you're pulling a trailer or caravan behind you, it's important to drive at a steady pace. Keep relaxed as you drive and stick to around 90km/h on freeways and highways.
Give yourself time
Although you may be used to your car when it's unattached, when you're towing something heavy things take longer. You'll need more time to slow down and it'll feel heavier to turn. Make sure you keep a good sized gap between you and the car in front to make up for this.
Overtaking will also take longer, as your acceleration will be slower, so make sure you only do this when it's absolutely safe to do so.
Reversing
For people who have never driven with a trailer, reversing can be a nightmare. A simple trick to remember: hold the steering wheel at the bottom and then turn your hand the way you want your trailer to turn. Going clockwise will make the trailer turn left while anti-clockwise will go right.

If you're going exploring with a camper trailer it's important to take it carefully on the roads, especially if conditions are wet. Call Kangaroo Tent City on 02 8999 7561 to discuss camper trailer options.

"Just wanted to say that the staff at the Tuggerah store have once again how awesome a "bricks and mortar" store can be. Every time I go in (and I usually have -1-3 kids in tow) they are so incredibly helpful and take the time to fix things - and show me how to do it. I think (????) it was andrew this morning who changed a Diamentina tent pole...

Taking your kids on a camping trip is a great way to get them to appreciate nature, not to mention away from the TV. As with any activity, getting your children involved is the best way for them to enjoy themselves but make sure you leave yourself enough time to deal with any trouble.
Set up in Daylight
If your child is keen on the camping trip, getting your tent up will be no problem. Trouble may arise if they throw a tantrum, so it's best to get these ready when you can see, and when people are less likely to be cranky.
Simple Meals
If you're going for hikes, kayaking or doing anything strenuous during your trip, the whole family will feel ravenous. Rather than having to slave over a meal in unfamiliar settings, it's better to make something easy. Some camping food tips include cooking burgers on a portable BBQ or, for variety, try pasta over a gas top stove.
Go to a Campsite with Facilities
While some diehards may say a real camping trip involves toilet breaks behind a bush and washing in a stream, your kids will probably appreciate a flushing loo and a shower.
Keep Toys to a Minimum
Although it's tempting to bring toys and games to keep the little ones entertained, remember that their focus should be on the environment around them. Give them a little time with their imagination and they're sure to find some games they can play outside.
Make Sure Your Equipment is in Good Nick
Before you set off on your trip, make sure everything is in good condition. A leaking tent full of mozzies or a cooker that doesn't light is sure to sour the experience. If there's anything you're lacking or something you need a backup for, visit Kangaroo City Tents & BBQs or call 02 8999 7561.

"Just wanted to let you know that I have fantastic service off Katie today. I needed some replacement handles for my 'campfire' stove and frypan which I purchased off you guys- and she followed it up promptly with a great outcome… not too common in retail today from my experience. You are lucky to have her. Thanks again."
